Je vais vous présenter une chanson qui s'intitule BACKLASH BLUES, un morceau chanté par la célèbre chanteuse afro-américaine Nina Simone.

Nina Simone est une célèbre chanteuse de jazz et soul des années 50, 60, connue grâce à son succès du morceau feeling good. Nina Simone commence la musique dès son plus jeune âge. Issue d'une famille Noire, elle est victime de racisme et de ségrégation aux Etats-Unis.

En 1964, Nina Simone va alors s'intéresser à la politique et va défendre les droits civiques, elle va notamment participé en 1965 à une marche de selma : trois marches de protestation qui ont marqué la lutte des droits civiques aux Etats-Unis.

A travers certaines de ses chansons, elle aborde l'inégalité raciale qui est très répandue à cette période. Le morceau Backlash Blues, sortie en 1966 est l'un des morceaux que Nina Simone a érigé au rang de l'hymne des Droits civiques. Les paroles ont été écrites par un célèbre poète Langston hughes. Dans cette chanson elle s'adresse à un certain M.Backlash. On comprend qu'elle s'adresse au gourvenement américain, évoque le fait que le gouvernement considère la population noir comme étant inférieure, alors que les noirs paient eux aussi des impots, défendent même le pays en partant à la guerre au vietnam.

Nina Simone is a famous jazz and soul singer of the fifties and sixties and she is known for her successful song “Feeling Good”. Nina Simone’s interest in music started at an early age. Born into a black family, she had been a victim of racism and segregation in the United States.

In 1964, Nina Simone became involved in politics and would defend civil rights. Namely in 1965 she participated in 1965 in the historic Selma-to-Montgomery March in Alabama: Three protest marches that marked civil rights battles in the USA.

Through some of her songs, she addressed racial inequality that was widespread at the time. The Backlash Blues that came out in 1966, is one of the songs that Nina Simone declared as civil rights’ hymn. The lyrics were written by the famous poet, Langston Hughes. In this song, she intends for a so-called Mr Backlash. It is understood that she is addressing a message to the American Government. She refers to the fact that the Government perceived the black population as being lower, while Black people settle as well taxes, and they even defend their country when they go to the Vietnam War.
