• Aim: To use the quadrat method to measure the status of the ecosystem of interest. Method and observations: Activity 1: Description of Ecosystem Mark out a 5m x 5 m area as your ecosystem. Use string to mark the boundaries or place some rocks at each corner. • Have a good look around your ecosystem without damaging, moving or disturbing anything. 1.1 Write down a description of your ecosystem, including the following points: 1.1.1 Describe the main features, such as: large trees, lots of plants/ grass, bare patches, rocks etc. 1.1.2 Is it sunny or shady? 1.1.3 Is the soil dry or moist? 1.1.4 The temperature of the soil (taken near or in soil) 1.1.5 Is the area flat or sloped? 1.1.6 Are there signs of human impact?
